The schoolhouse restoration is moving quickly towards completion. Tidewater Preservation is on-site this month undertaking final structural repairs to the foundation, framing, and interior flooring. Next they will begin replacing the exterior siding.

The last step to restoring the historic Harrington School is replacing the windows, doors, porticoes and blackboards. Would you, your family, or your colleagues consider a tax deductible gift to sponsor the repairs to these key features? Sponsorship is a great way to honor a special teacher, friend, or community leader. All sponsorships will be recognized in the completed schoolhouse.

Funds for Historic Schoolhouse

Members of eBay Enterprise's Brunswick GIVE Team presented a $2,500 check to The Friends of Harrington School, Inc. for the restoration of the historic African American schoolhouse on St. Simons Island on October 28, 2014.

GIVE Team is an acronym for Grantmaking and Inspiring Volunteerism Everywhere. Employees at the Brunswick center for eBay Enterprises are dedicated to making a difference in the community. For more information about GIVE and the eBay Foundation of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation go to http://theopportunityproject.org/about-ebay-foundation.

“Dan Zynda, an analyst at Ebay Enterprises in Brunswick and a volunteer at the annual Georgia Sea Island Festival sponsored by the St. Simons African American Heritage Coalition asked his company to call us,” stated Friends President Patty Deveau. “We were delighted to submit a grant and we look forward to an upcoming work day where the local eBay employees can work side by side with the historic preservation contractors to lend a hand as well as these funds to completing this important heritage tourism site.”

To make a donation to the restoration of the historic Harrington School or to sign up your office or club for upcoming hands-on work days this winter, call 912-634-0330.

Thanks to generous donors and a campaign we are over halfway through our Phase II campaign. We have raised $110,000 in pledges and donations. Generous donors include an historic preservationist from Iowa, the employees from the Ebay call center in Brunswick, and donations from foundations from families who admire and enjoy Gullah Geechee heritage.
